Teacher Mission Statement:
Personally Speaking ...
My students know me as Mrs. Hatcher, their teacher. I am also a wife, a mother, a musician, and a pathological reader. I uncover the absurd aspects of life and find others who will laugh with me. I teach because teaching suits me. I won’t lie: I love having the attention of my class! My biggest thrill in the classroom is watching students surprise themselves when they master a new skill or concept. “Wow,” they tell me, “that wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be!” I teach because I love repetition; I can read the same story, year after year, and still find something in the plot or the characters to enthrall me. However, as much as I love predictability, teaching means not really knowing what will happen next. When I picture myself in the future, I see someone who is still involved with whom she loves: her family and her students. My glasses will get thicker and my hair will require more color maintenance, but I will still be chanting times tables, drawing Venn diagrams, tuning orchestra instruments, and reading No Flying in the House. At some point in my life, I would love to author an adventure series for kids to read. More than anything, though, I want to know that my own children and my students are ready to tackle a constantly-changing world - prepared to adapt, to work together, and to live richly rewarding lives.
